still confused about mixed mode and registering

    If I install sqlserver 2000 and give the command line sapwd='MyStrongPass' securitymode=sql

    this is mixed mode?

    Also, when I go to register my server

    in mixed mode and give it the sa and password above I get a failed registration, why? the sql services are running.

    But on some machine I do the exact same process with success register. SO to succesfully register I use windows auth and it works but I do not understand why mixed mode register fails when I know the sa and password are correct.

    Adam, IF you open Enterprise Manager, right click on the server, click on Properties, then click on the Securities Tab, this should show you what mode you are running in. Authentication should show SQL Server and Windows. If not, then you are not running in Mixed Mode. You can change it there, if need be.
