Steps to making a datawarehouse

  Hi,

  i was asked to make a datawarehouse.

  the way i understood things, i would say i am supposed to extract the needed files into a database "Staging Area" where tables are still not related. then i should create a "Reference Database" which i don't quiet understand. and then i am to apply the ETL on the saging area data loading it into my data warehouse where i ve already defined the relations between the dimensions tables and the facts tables..

  PS: i've already created the snowflake schema modeling i'll be working on.

  hope that didn't sound much stupid :/

  please correct me if am wrong, + the reference data .. ? + at which step should i start worrying about the IDs ?

  Star Schema The Complete Reference

  If you still have doubts, ask your company for a training.

  They shouldn't ask you to build a data warehouse without some proper support. It's a failure waiting to happen.
