The reference MSDN catalog.start_execution (SSISDB Database) gives only an example
with the parameter N'LOGGING_LEVEL'. The use of other parameters is well explained here:

Thanks for the question. I believe there's a parameter for the stored procedure where you can set it to run synchronously.

There's also a synchronous setting
Been caught out by this before where I was left wondering why it kept responding immediately
