Standard SQL Server 2000 Configuration Document

  • My boss would like me to draft up a standard sql server configuration document of some kind.  This document will be given to system admins and programmers to assure that all our sql server are set up the same or a least very similar. I'm toying what might might go in this document.  So far I have a shell which contains the items below.  Any suggests you have for additional items, or changes to these would be greatly appreciated.

     Configuration Items:

    • Accounts  Type/Name for Services: Domain/name for all services
    • Memory: 1 GB minimum
    • Processors: 2 GB minimum
    • Drives setup (minimum):            2 for the Operating system (mirrored)

          • 2 for the Transaction logs (mirrored)
          • 3 for the data (raid 5)
        • Service Startup:  All services should start up automatically
        • Authentication: SQL Server and Windows
        • Audit Level: All
        • Memory Management: Dynamic
        • Protocols/Port Number Enabled:??

          Special SQL Server Configuration Settings:??

      • You should probably mention

        1. The configurations of each Database.

        2. The directory SQL Server is installed in.

        3. The directory each Database & Transaction Log is located.

        4. The directory each Database Backup is located.

        5. The types of Database Backups.

The list keeps going. However, I'm sure others will cintribute to this.

        Kindest Regards,
