SSRS - ReportServer Virtual Directoy

  • I'm not getting the normal "look and feel" of the ReportServer virtual directory, what I am seeing is the browse direcoty feature.

I configured through RS Configuration Manager, using the default web site. What is the default page/asp file for the ReportServer virtual directory.

Also, when I click on Report Builder from http://server/ReportManager, I get the "not authorized" error, which is probably a security issue, but I'm not sure what to check.

    Thanks.

    I get Internet Explorer message:

    localhost/Reportserver - /

Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services Version 9.00.3042.00

  • Did you mean you need to access Report Manager? in this case you have to use this URL:

    http://localhost/Reports

  • If you're hitting the /ReportServer virtual directory, expect something that looks like a directory listing. The ReportServer part is the web service. For what is typically /Reports you should get a more familiar interface.

As far as the Not authorized error, you should check the security on the virtual directory within the IIS manager and see how it's set to authenticate. Likely it's set to Windows authentication, or at least, it should be. If it is, your browser should be prompting you for username/password if you're not going straight through. If you aren't being prompted, check the IIS logs. They are typically in %systemroot%\system32\logfiles\w3svc1 (if Reporting Services is installed in the default web site). The header is at the top of the log file and tells you what order the columns are in. See if you see your username listed. If you do and you still see the 401 or 401.x error, it means your user account doesn't have permissions to the actual directory.

  • Thanks K. Brian Kelly.

This was the conclusion I finally came to late last week after a lot of

    research.

    Appreciate your feedback!
