Aha, I was thinking that local #tmp tables don't have statistics generated for them, but I was getting confused with table variablesThat solves the potential issue with concurrent users then

Yup I actually had to use select into #tmp for a "complex"-ish search form. Even with 10K searches / day I never had any issues.
The fact that I had another 15 steps in the query also weighted in pretty heavily.
