SSRS report

  • When i run a ssrs report from VS it doesnt show up in the web page though i have target url setup to the report server, rather the report is seen in a diffrent window which is like a traditional widows based.

but I can see the report from my report manager.

  • What do you mean when you run a report from VS? are you talking about previewing in the preview tab? Or are you talking about clicking run? I thought All Clicking run does is build and deploy the report to your server. that's why you can see it in Report Manager.

If you wanted to actually run your report, you could execute it from within report manager at that time... or perhaps I missed the point entirely?

  • I mean Iam running the report from the project, it is building and deploying but i cant see the report in a web page but the report is displayed in a diffrent window, its not even a preview.

  • You stated "i cant see the report in a web page".

I suppose my question would be why are you trying to? Just access the reportserver like your users do. It will be listed in your solution, you should be able to click on it and run it from there. check your default build/debug options as that may be the source of your pain...

Mayhap it's just me being silly, but I never, ever, ever run my reports from inside of VS except in the preview tab. If I were to hit f5 to run my report, It would try to build and deploy about 100 different reports...

Once I'm happy with it in my preview pane, I deploy the report and run it exactly as my users would.

  • where can i see default build or run options.

and 1 thing to share if you are hitting f5 it may run all reports but if you right click on sepcific report it just runs that report.

You shoudl be able to access those via configuration manager...

Yes I understand this, I guess a better way of stating my previous reasoning is, If I already have Report Manager open in an IE window, Why do I want to wait for another IE window to spawn and open to the right place, just to view it when I can just click the link from report manager? why not just right click and deploy the report?

But that could just be one of my pet peeve's cause the PC I use in the office is currently overwhelmed by running VS, Outlook and my company's mandated Friday afternoon Virus Scan... My Hardware replacement cycle can't move fast enough...
