SSRS Question - Rights issue, user can not see Reports

  • Please see attached. Any reason on the steps on how to fix this ?

The message is clear. But our team is confused as to why this user is getting this msg even after giving him all the rights.

I am not sure what step the administrator did not execute. May be you can help.

  • For lack of better words, clearly your team did not give the user sufficient rights to access the report, regardless of what they might say.

Ensure that the user has access to the folder the report is located in (and any folder prior to that) firstly. you can check the security settings by navigating to the folder in your preferred (although IE is better for this) browser and clicking folder settings. Secondly, check that the user has permission to the report by hovering over the report and clicking security.

if the user is not in a Group, or named, in any of these steps, they will not have access to view the report.

  • Good Morning:

Take a close look at the picture I sent. Do you see any folders ?

Can you explain in clear steps please ?

  • btw - I did login as an administrator ( Press SHIFT key and Right Click on IE ICON and select "RUN as ADMINISTRATOR" )

I only see 3 links on the far right. ( Home, My Subscriptions, Help )

Strange: If I run IE as ADMINSITRATOR and go to http://localhost/Reports I see that link "Site Settings" on the far right .

  • That's because you're logged in as the user who has denied access. You can't changed a user's permissions, when that user has denied access.

Access the web address from an account that has administrative privileges to the SSRS web domain. Then you will see the Folders and Folder settings icons. My instructions above should be quite self explanatory once you're logged in as an administrative account.

  • Running IE as local administrator won't make any difference. You need to use a network account that has administrative privileges

The user doesn't have access at the Home folder level, under site settings.

  • Cool!

    That worked.

They had given me permission to a folder well below the HOME folder.

I asked them to start with the "HOME" folder and that settled the matter.

    Cool and Thanks
