I am trying to do what I thought would be some basic data mining/trend analysis but I am having problems getting up and running. Any chance you can provide some insight on what I'm doing wrong ?
After creating a data source and a data view I get the error below when I try and view data either through data mining or cubes.
" Unable to connect to the localhost server. Make sure that the server is started"
I assume the problem has to do with defining the Analysis Service target but I am a little nervous about experimenting as I don't want to mess up my high tracffic database.
Any suggestion will be appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

Are you sure you are pointing to the right server / database and with valid credentials?
Last point, is the server still running (might also want to check sql browser and accepted connection protocols)

The server is running actually.. But I'll implement your other suggestion and verify the outcome.
Thank you.

You can also try to ping it from you dev machine. That can show you if some port is blocked by the network admin...
