SSRS Implementation Question

  • These may appear to be novice questions but I need the help.

    1) Does SSRS need to be installed on the same server as the website will be hosted?

    2) What are the pros and cons to installing SSRS on a seperate server then the SQL Server instance?

    Thanks

  • A lot of people use ASP.Net to host a website and call reports from the report manager, so no, SSRS does not need to be on the same server as a website.

SSRS Requires a SQL server instance for the reporting services database. If you are asking about running the report manager on a different server than the reporting services database, I don't have the experience to comment other than I am reasonably certain that it is possible.

  • We run reporting services on our web server which is a separate box from our db server. Look at for details about scaled out deployments.
