I appear to be having issues with report development in Visual Studio 2008/Business Intelligence Development Studio for SSRS 2008.
When switching the report to preview mode the report takes a long time to generate.
Testing the exact same report in Report Builder 2.0 and when deployed to the report server, it generates quickly. I can switch to preview mode in Visual Studio 2008 on a report and then load up IE and load the same report in the report manager and it will render well before Visual Studio does.
I've tested this on my Windows 7 machine and also in my virtual machine setup which is Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows XP client machine and they all have the same behaviour.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?

I've just had a look at the results in SQL Server Profiler first running the report from the Report Manager and then within Visual Studio.
Report Manager: Duration = 1885
Visual Studio: Duration = 327946 (173x longer!)
Nothing appears to be different with the SQL that is being executed between the two though something is causing the resultset to take longer to come back when executed via Visual Studio.

Quick query: When BIDS does return its preview is it exactly as you expect(apart from the time it takes) in terms of data ?

Yes the report generated shows the correct and same results when run via report manager.
