SSRS 2005 - Reporting Serevices

  • When I create an ad hoc report in Report Builder, it only allows me to sort by the first field in the report.

If I go to 'Sort and Group' it shows all fields, but if I select a field other than the first one in the list, it disappears.

After I run the report, when clicking on the little arrows in the report header only works for the first field in the report.

If I click on any of the other arrows, nothing happens.

    Thanks,

    Andrea

  • What type of object is in your report, table, matrix, list? I'm assuming it's a matrix and as such you won't be able to sort by your column groups. This is a known issue and supposedly has been corrected in SSRS2008. You could always recreate your matrix in your query and then use a table or list to actually output your results thereby allowing you to sort however you need to.

  • The sort function in the column headers are designed to be used one at a time - there is a known bug that sometimes you cannot re-sort after the original sort. If this occurs, and it sounds like it is, you will need to re-run the report. One option - undocumented - to sort on multiple columns is to select Ctrl key and click (in order) the columns you wish to sort.

Sorry, not much help, but good luck.

  • Thanks for the responses.

I does appear to be a bug, because now it's working just fine and I did not make any changes.

Thanks for the tip about sorting on multiple columns.
