SSRS 2005 - Error when trying to freeze headers on a matrix

  • I have a report that I am trying to freeze headers on that uses a matrix. I tried setting the "Group header should remain visible while scrolling" option of the row group but anytime it try it the report will not generate. The error message i receive is:

[rsFixedHeadersInInnerDataRegion] The matrix ‘matrix1’ includes a table header or column with FixedHeader set to true. This is not allowed on data regions inside other data regions.

The report has a matrix in the body with 3 row groups and 1 column group containing 2 fields. I added a rectangle above the row groups to add lables above those fields. Aside from those labels the only other objects on the report is the page header and the page group value label in the body above the matrix. I have tried removing the labels but am not able to get the report to generate anytime i set the group headers option.

Is there something that i am missing that could be causing it to consider there to be embedded data regions? I do have one of the 3 row groups set as a child so that it can allow for expanding and collapsing the leftmost grouping. This report is fairly large and has 30-60 rows and up to 30-40 columns depending on the page so it will limit the usefulness of the report if i cannot get this issue resolved.

If anyone has any insight into what could be causing this issue it would help me out a lot. Thanks.

  • After playing around with the report layout for a while, i was able to get the report to freeze headers by taking the matrix out of the list box and placing it directly into the body of the report. I was then able to freeze the column and row groups. However, that caused the page groupings to stop working properly. The report now includes all columns on the same page and displays the first page group value.

Is there any way to have both the page groupings and freeze headers on the matrix row and column groups? The only solution i could think of is to split the report into distinct reports for each page group however there could be as many as 20-25 different values so for the 4 reports impacted by this issue it could require up to 100 different reports to cover the same functionality as the original report. Even though the layout of these reports will be the same it will cause a lot of issues in having to coordinate between the different reports if design changes are needed.

If anyone has any suggestions as to how to incorporate both page groupings and frozen headers in a matrix or how to easily duplicate the report that would help me out immensely.
