Environment: Win3k, SQL2k Ent 3a, clustered, xp2 desktops
Issue: Intermittant SSPI cannot create context on query analyzer logon.
Steps taken: In sum, everything MS suggested. Case is 3-wk old now.
Looking for any third party experience in solving this! Thanks.

Are you using extended stored procedures and/or xml processing?

I am sorry, actually on QA logon it's happening...

Yes, but failure to create a logon context can be caused by a lack of available memory in the MemToLeave area, where connection contexts are created. Extended stored procedures and XML manipulation normally also use this area and if they are not behaving correctly they might exhaust the memory. Anyway it is just a wild guess, since you did not provide a lot of information to try and base any solution on.
However you should of course have the same troubles of opening sessions from other clients as well, so if it is only a 100% QA thing then it is probably something completely different.

I am of course assuming that you have gone through the 'normal' ways of trying to figure it out (i.e. Google, MS Support etc) since you said the case is three weeks old. Otherwise here is a good reference: How to troubleshoot the "Cannot generate SSPI context" error message

to recreate SSPI err msg: continuously create Query analyzer windows, last time at 125 instance of QA window, msg came up...thx

Ok, I will try this tomorrow when I am at work where I have SQL Server 2000 (only 2005 at home). Is it always around 125, or was that just that specific time? If it is always after opening that many connections it might be further information pointing to memory issues. Not that 125 is really many connections of course.
What are the specs for the server?
Have you ever encountered the error anywhere else than QA? What kind of clients/applications are you using with the server?
