SSMS Help system buggy ?

  • I keep my help "local" vs. "online".

However, in my developer edition of SSMS (2014),

I constantly get "cannot find requested content on your computer".

However, in my Help Library Manager it says:

    Books Online

    Developer Reference

    MS SQL Server Language Reference

What am I missing ? I don't understand why some content is available and other content is not ?

For instance, it cannot even find help on "UPDATE".

  • Apologies for the obvious question... did you download "Books Online" (the help system you're looking for) and install it? It is no longer installed automatically nor even provided on the installations disks.

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

  • Yes I did Jeff and it is showing up when I go:

Help,Manage Help Settings, Choose online or local help

And when I click on "Check for Updates", It says "Books Online Status=Up To Date"

    HOWEVER:

In the Settings form, the library location says: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\HelpLibrary

and the HelpLibrary folder does not exist and it is not hidden either.

Very strange....and I can't change the library location.

The main reason I am being so anal about this is that I detest online help.

It can't be annotated, and specific topics sometimes cannot be bookmarked.
