SSMS: Contents of Message Tab not Displaying

  • I shrunk an SSMS session to make it easier to see this problem.
Here is the session with executed commands showing the Results tab.
    Everything looks good...

However, here is the same session showing the Messages tab:

The whole tab pane is blank. Because of this you can't see any written messages or generated error messages.
Here is a SQL command that generates an error:

The Results tab is normal. Its the Message tab that is messed up.
That warning in the lower left corner says: Query completed with errors.

Occasionally the first use of a freshly started SSMS session will return the following error dialog:

Expanding the Technical Details button generates the following:

Somehow SSMS is tripping over message output...

Does anyone have a solution for this problem ?!?

  • Additional Info: Some are relating this problem to the installation of KB4055532
