Morning all
Got a slightly unusual one here - we have a server in Russia that the outsourced IT Support built. Details are a little sketchy as to the method at the moment - as in whether it's a P2V from the old box, or a new build and a restore in
Anyway - there's one instance on the box, but two methods of getting in. You can either use the default, or the named instance.
so - with a little anonymising - you can connect to either "A123RU01" or "A123RU01\SFOL", and it will go to the same instance. There is only the one instance there - regedit/services prove it. Running @@servername shows the instance is "A123RU01\SFOL", even when on the instance nominally "A123RU01"
Not really an issue - we have no duplication of data, so I've reassured them on that.
My concern is they were trying to delete/uninstall the default instance, on the assumption it was old/a duplicate etc.
I've managed to stop them today. I want to be to stop them in the future!
Any thoughts?

Someone set the port to 1433 for the named instance?

ooh and you have it straight away. From here
This is the most common port allowed through the firewall. It applies to routine connections to the default installation of the Database Engine, or a named instance that is the only instance running on the computer. (Named instances have special considerations. See Dynamic Ports later in this topic.)
I'll try and get them to change the Port number
Many thanks
