SSMS 2016 - Import (and other SSIS functions) - Thinks it's Express

  • Hi all,

I've recently installed SSMS 2016, and when using tasks such as the Import Data tool, at the end it always thinks it's running in Express mode. This isn't a massive problem, as I don't generally save these off, I normally write them myself in SSIS when it's not a one off task, but it does make me wonder/worry if there's anything else that SSMS is missing out as it thinks I'm "express".

I don't have SQL Server 2016 installed on the machine, as I'm on Windows 7, but i do have SQL Server 2008 and 2012. Has anyone else come across this problem, and if so, how did you get around it?

    Thanks!

  • I am seeing the same thing with a recent install of SSMS 2016 on my workstation as well. Did you ever determine the cause or a fix?

  • Last version it was still doing it, I haven't checked since the August release(16.3) if it still happens. I just "live" with it at the moment, however, if anyone has encountered the problem and got around it, would be great to hear how you did.

    Cheers/

  • Thom,

I was able to solve the issue with saving SSIS packages through the 2016 Data Import Task Wizard. During installation, under the Feature Selection part, one of the option's is Integration Services. I installed on my workstation where I have SSMS and SQL Data Tools already installed. Now, the wizard offers the package save option. Not sure why this is required as a separate selection now, when previous versions did not.
