  Anyone know where I can download SQL Server Management Studio 2012 as a standalone install to connect to a remote DB?

  Thanks, the second one worked, but it was like in the 12th step of the installation process that I could choose just the SSMS

  This is how it's worked since at least SQL Server 2000. I have worked with SQL Server 7 but I never did any installs in those days so I'm not sure about it. The management tools are just 1 component that can be installed. If that's the only component you need, you still have to go through the same installer.
