I want to learn one language so that I can do script tasks easily. Which one should I learn - visual basic or visual c# ?
Which is better if -
1 - you know java well
2 - want to develop code quickly
3 - easy for beginners
4 - has most functionality for ETL developers

it totally depends on your choice,,,, and this is totally personal to choose between them,,
i prefer to choose C#, because,
my teammates are working on c#, so i get help from them, and learning guidance.

If you know Java well, C# is the obvious choice.
You can do the same things in a script task/components with C# or Visual Basic, so it all boils down to personal choice.

1 - you know java well
C#
2 - want to develop code quickly
C# is less verbose
3 - easy for beginners
VB.NET has the edge here, IMO
4 - has most functionality for ETL developers
both equal

I learned both languages by self-study, and they are both easy in my opinion.
Looking at the future and other applications of those programming languages, I wouldn't waste my time with VB, but start with C#.

I don't understand what do you mean by "future and other applications". Can you give me some examples ? Were you suggesting that VB has no future or is a dying language ?

I'm noticing in my environment that C# is more dominant.
Some may argue VB is a bit dying, but I think it might stay around for a while.
I won't be using it though.
