SSIS Grant Permissions to integration services

  • Hello,

I am just wanted to get more information about "Grant Permissions to Integration Services Service",

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/integration-services/grant-permissions-to-integration-services-service?view=sql-server-2014

It says to give whatever group access because by default its secured, but wondering what does it grant specifically? also there are "Access Permissions", and "Configuration Permissions" what are those and what access does it grant in detail if anyone knows?

    thanks in advance

  • As I think you have been asked in another thread, what is it about the IS service which you think you need?

It can be turned off, yet will not prevent you deploying or running packages

  • Hey Phil,

sorry maybe it is, but its regarding the screen shot below, setting permissions etc. just need to know which and what grants purpose etc.

Why do you need to know? What is it that you are trying to achieve? Are you doing a course / exam, perhaps?

  • No, just trying to understand what its asking me to do since this is for security reasons.  but it might come up in a exam 😛

  • OK, I think maybe you don't understand what I am driving at, so I'll spell it out.

If you stop the IS service, all of your 'security reasons' become irrelevant and there's no need to worry about what these permissions do.

I'm sure that you have other more important things to be getting on with.

  • Thank you Phil for answering my question, though condescending response, but I am also a straight shooter.

I am trying to understand, as with setting up anything.

I just need to know what power does those Permissions give you, example:

if you run the Dcomcnfg.exe in search, then go to:

Component Services > Computers > My Computer > DCOM Config node.

then on Microsoft SQL server Integration Services (depending on what version you install will have either 11.0, 12.0 etc.) then right click and select properties, on the Security tab, there is 3 levels, 1. Launch and Activation Permissions, 2. Access Permissions, 3. Configuration Permissions.

I am trying to get the answer below:

again what permission level does these do below:

    1. Launch and Activation Permissions

    2. Access Permissions

    3. Configuration Permissions.

I apologize for any confusion or misunderstanding, I am trying to get a reasonable and affable answer.

    thank you
