SSIS concepts - cluster, storage, consolidation

  • Hello to ALL,

I'd like to raise discussion and probaly get some answers from forum members on the following SSIS related aspects:

    1. SSIS clustering -- shared resource group or dedicated resource group?

    2. Centralizing SSIS service within organization, I mean one or two SSIS machines serving entire organization

    3. Packages storage -- Msdb vs. file system

    I would appreciate your responses.

    Thanks,

    Gary

  • I spent several months, initially with beta and finally GA software, and I would suggest that you will want to learn SSIS and hopefully make it work on a stand-alone environment and THEN worry about what the organization needs.  We totally GAVE UP on the product, 100%, completely, scrapped all development and used other tools to get where we needed to go.  We delivered our reporting product on schedule with a slight re-adjustment as to the deliverable; but we delivered something that was acceptable to the VP of R&D and his European customers.

I wouldn't even THINK about clustering or centralizing until it worked for me privately.  As for package storage, DB for development, and XML for deployment.

    Thank-you,
