  While restoring the SQL server given an error "the media family on device 'C:\XXX.BAK' is in correctly formed. SQL server cannot process this media family RESTORE DATABASE is terminati

  ng abnormally". the Dialoge box with the above error containes the title "Microsoft SQL-DMO (ODBC sql STATE: 42000)"(UserID=262424)

  Please help!!!

  Things to consider are:

  1. Is it the right SQL Server version you're trying to restore on

  2. Is the file corrupted - RESTORE VERIFYONLY...

  3. is the backup from a 3rd party app, such as Litespeed
