There is no selection of SSIS SSAS when I am running the change just now... where are they?
Can I just install SSAS SSIS engines??

As you proceed through the installation you will come to a panel where you are shown the various items in SQL with an indication they are installed or partially installed. It is on that screen you would select to install SSIS, etc.

This may seem like going back to basics, but on the grounds you're new to SQL it might be worth it.
Is the Server Type drop down box greyed out? If so, it might indicate that SSMS believes you have requested to connect to Database Engine only. If so, under the Object Explorer, try specifying you want to connect to SSIS or SSAS, then try again, or use File -> Connect Object Explorer which should (hopefully) give you all options.

thanks for ur advice.
but no luck!
Server Type: Analysis Services
Server Name: "blank", and it only shows
Click on it, only DataBase engine has an instance name to choose from "My-PC\MyInstanceName"
Apart from database engine, none of RS IS AS has instances avaiable to select from.

With all you have tried and the length of time you have taken, it might be the best advise is to uninstall sql and reinstall it from the original discs. Take your time and be sure you don't take the automatic options. Look at everything. If when you get to installed options there are some greyed out, click on them to see what is underneath.

Thanks for your advice.
Where the problem is coming from is that I can not 100% remove SQL 2005 from my vista machine. There are always some SQL traces left on my machine.
Somehow when I un-installed and re-install SQL 2005, there was something (e.g. previous instance name) being remembered by the machine.
It maybe because of Vistra Home Prem. I am going to install SQL 2008, hopefully RS IS AS will work.

Generally when programs are removed there are residual folders, data, etc. left on the machine. Poor maintenance routines by the package authors. You will have to go to programfiles and see if there are any obvious folders left and delete them, or rename them to be sure they don't contain other data you might need for other programs.

OK..
Will there be any conflicts between SQL 2005 Standard Ed and 2008 Standard?
