Hi All,
I have managed to install 5 SSAS (2016) named instances on one virtual Windows Server 2012 R2.
Only 4 can run... SSAS services can be started in any order. When the last one is started i get errors:
"The SQL Server Analysis Services (x) service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs."
And
"The service cannot be started: Message-handling subsystem: The message manager for the default locale cannot be found. The locale will be changed to US English. The following system error occurred: Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service."
Now i am trying to identify the "insufficient system resource".
So far tested:
8GB RAM -> no change in behavior
32GB RAM -> no change in behavior
4 CPU cores -> no change in behavior
8 CPU cores -> no change in behavior
msmdsrv.log has the same " ... insufficient system resource ..." message, but no more hints.
Flightrecorder does not offer hints.
ProcessMonitor does not offer hints.
So... the question is: What is insufficient?

As it is a virtual server. Is the memory for the VM fixed or dynamic? (ballooning)

Fixed memory. On Hyper-V. VM is generation 2.
Good point... Integration components should be up-to-date. I'll check them.
Edit: Version 6.3.9600.17831 in use. Correct for this environment.
Also tested Local system as account for the service. Same error messages.
