OK,
installed SQL Server 2012 (SP1 11.0.2218.0) on Windows 8 (what a pain this was). Now after a while I have come back to work on it and can not connect to the SSAS instance.
When connecting I hit the drop down on the server name box and have tried local and also clicking on the name of the instance.
I believe it is installed in multidimensional mode and most of the googleing of this error relates to the tabular model.
I am a little stumped as there does not seem to be many suggestions on this.
Thanks

This is just getting weirder.
When I go to connect I either name the instance or use (local). Then under options it is possible to click the drop down for databases. i.e I will select from a list. So hit the drop down and select browse server. This then appears to go get the info and display a window showing no databases (which is correct as there are no SSAS catalogs at the moment).
So it seems to allow browsing the instance for SSAS databases but still wont allow the connection?
Still gives unable to establish server mode. Could this be a firewall issue or is there something simple I have missed?
Cheers
😎
