I am relatively new to some of the administrative parts of SQL-Server 2000. I inherited a SQL-Server database for which no maintenance plan was set up. I promptly went through the wizard to set one up. Several days later, I went back to find that no backups were made.
With a little trouble shooting, I found that SQL Agent is not running. I went into Windows Services and attempted to start it. It starts briefly, then shuts down.
This database runs on a Windows server that I have logon rights to. I was able to get the admin password and tried it with SQL Agent to no avail.
Is there a trick to getting this service running?
Is there a sequence you have to follow to get it to start on boot?
Thanks,
Tom

Check the Windows error log for the reason it won't start. Likely it's security.
No tricks. works like other services. The Service account does need to be able to log into SQL Server, so you might need to add it as a login.
