Sqlserver2005

  • Hi All,

    Need some help.....

I have a concern with one of our production server which is running low disk space and our sys administrator has compressed the hard disk drive to occupy some space. Can anyone tell me does it is going to affect any of the data or transaction log files or any .bak or.trn files...

    Thanks a billion

    S.Hassan

  • The backups might be safe to compress. The data and log files are another matter.

Only read-only filegroups can be placed on compressed drives and transaction log files should never be compressed. You can find this in books online under Read-only filegroups
