Hi,
I'm running SQL 2005 sp2 Developer Ed. on my Vista. I had some problems and I wanted to reinstall it. So, I desinstalled everything from SQL cleanly using control panel and reinstalled: SQL Server setups tells me that the Notification Services, Integration Services and Workstation components are still present and in a more recent version. When I do continue, even the SQL server service will not install in the default instance, claiming that it already exists! But there are no SQL server services anymore, and I have even deleted the folders. Should I start registry cleaning? There are a lot of SQL components in the GAC, but Vista keeps denying me the right to delete them.
Any ideas anybody?
Thanks,
Jan

Ah hah!!!, I know that dog. That probably means you have SQL2000 running side by side with SQL2005.
Run this C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\ARPWrapper.exe and uninstall each component at a time.
After each component try to run Install again so the ARPWrapper gets intalled in same location, but Cancel at second screen I think.
You will need to do this like 4-5 times.
Post back with results or questions.

Hi Camilo!
Thanks, but I never installed SQL 2000 on this machine.
And it seems I have no program called ARPWrapper.exe. Where can I find it?
Thanks,
Jan

Ok, insert the SQL 2005 CD(orDVD) try to install but cancel after second screen, or after that file is created in the directory mentioned above.
I will keep searching for the "Legal Instructions from MS" I had to do this last week.
OK here is the link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909967
