Hi there. I full well know that XP is not supported for the native client nor for the the data engine itself, but is there any kind of workaround for getting JUST the 2012 Management Studio to install/work on XP?
I have about 40 developers all running XP and we're not quite ready to upgrade them to 7 yet.
Thanx,
Michael D.

I don't think that works.
But you should be able to connect earlier versions of SSMS to SQL 2012, if I'm not mistaken. At least enough to write and execute queries and scripts. Try it, see if it works.

Yes, I can successfully connect SSMS2008 to my 2012 instance but when I attempt to use the gui to do work (like create a table) I'm presented with an error:
"This backend version is not supported to design database diagrams or tables. (MS Visual Database Tools)."
If I actually run the associated TSQL to create the table it works just fine. However, if I inflict that situation on my developers they're just going to squawk. Thus, I was hoping for a workaround. 😀

You could try something other than SSMS.
ApexSQL Edit (http://www.apexsql.com/sql_tools_edit.aspx) might be an option. I don't know if it can run on XP and edit SQL 2012, but their salespeople will know that, if you call or e-mail them.
There are other options out there. Bing/Google "SQL tools" and see what you find.
I know the ApexSQL tools are pretty popular. They're RedGate's competition, and RedGate owns this site, but I don't think RedGate has a stand-alone SQL dev tool like ApexSQL Edit.
