SQL2005 / SP3 fails with start services problem

    Found the cause.

    McAfee Host Intrusion Prevention (HIPS) / Firewall. Firewall Log says:

    Attach Type: Suspicious Function Invocation

    Solution:

    Suspended the Firewall/HIPS

    Re-ran the SP3 install.

    Success!!!!

    Note: the McAfee HIPS console has the User interface locked. Unlock to Suspend the Firewall/HIPS. You may want to using the password 'abcde12345'.

    I think this is my issue aswell regarding McAfee HIPS stopping the Database Services install ...

    I will get the security guys to disable HIPS an then I'll try again as I don't have access to disable it on the 1 server I have issues on with the update and I won't risk running into this problem on another server until this is resolved 1st ...
