Hello,
My dilemma in a nut shell: When I access my Report Manger from my web browser I get the expected out on the screen. When I try to use the print icon next to the Export button I get challenged to enter a user name and password to continue with the print job. None of the combinations I’ve tried work. I can print the screen - File, Print.. And I can use the Export feature right in the web browser to export to PDF and Excel without any errors.
I’m running two report servers both on SQL 2005 SP2. The one running without any issues is has a Win2003 OS while the one asking for credentials is a Win2008 server. I compared everything I can think of between the two servers (IIS, right, etc…) and cannot find any differences, SQL user accounts are the same and access to the Report directory are the same. When challenged from my PC I’m using fully qualified usernames and passwords (local and network) servername\username and domain\username. I have also confirmed that all accounts work.
I get the expected output I just can print using the Print icon in the Report manager window. What has Microsoft done different in 2008 than they did in 2003?

Ok… This is what worked for me.
My first problem was that I was not logging in the same as the users needing to print. I discovered this when the users received the “Unable to load client print control” and not the error message I posted previously.
Once I was on the same playing field as the Power Users I was able to resolve my issue by deleting the following reg key on each XP SP3 PC with the issue:
This must be deleted by an admin account not a power user.
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{FA91DF8D-53AB-455D-AB20-F2F023E498D3}]
Once this was deleted I ran my report received my results and then printed without an issue. I some cases before the job would print I needed to install the ActiveX for SQL printing.
Logged backing as the Power User and tested without error as well.
Our SUS server has been updated to not re-apply this update(s) - KB956803 & KB956391.
