I am looking at a third party product to handle unidirectional, transactional replication from our AS400 DB2 database to a SQL server. Someone mentioned to me that a third party tool is not necessary as SQL2000 can handle this replication easily, out-of-the-box.
Once I stopped laughing (I have had experience trying to make SQL and AS400 talk nicely together) I started poking around and have determined that yes, this can be done. What I can't find are details. Do you need your AS400 set up as linked server? Where is the option to to configure the linked server as the publisher? Do I have to program the replication? Do I need to use Microsoft Host integration?

I'm not sure if you can use SQL2000 replication for this.
We are using DataMirror Transformation Server to replicate data from AS400 DB2 database to a SQL server. Go to http://www.datamirror.com/products
