SQL2000 Cluster and server reboot after windows updates

  • Hi all,

We have a two node (active/active) SQL2000 cluster. Is the following procedure correct for server reboot after windows updates are applied?

Do windows updates on Node1, move group from virtual Node1 to virtual Node2, take virtual Node1 offline, reboot Node1, move group back to virtual Node1 from virutal Node2.

Repeat the same on Node2 later.

Please clarify if these steps are right.

    Thanks,

    srimath

  • Any response please?

  • What version of Windows?

  • dharper3, it's Windows 2000 Adv.server.

  • Your process sounds good to me, however I don't think you need to bring anything offline.  I would just move the SQL group to the next node before rebooting.

  • I agree that it's not necessary to take the node offline once you have moved the group to the other node.  We have an active / passive setup, but the steps are basically the same.

  • Look at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;174799  It gives the general procedure for service packs and/or hotfixes in a clustered environment.
