SQL Standard or MSDE for SharePoint in DMZ

  • Money is tight and I need to install SQL Server to support SharePoint in a DMZ.

Microsoft has just released MSDE 2000 Release A of which they say

"MSDE is an ideal solution for:

Client applications that require an embedded database.

Basic websites that serve up to 25 concurrent users.

New developers who are learning how to build data-driven applications."

This SharePoint site would support 20 to 30 users.

What would be the down side of using MSDE rather that SQL standard for SharePoint?

  • The downsides of MSDE used to be that it wouldn't run more than 5 concurrent queries and it would degrade performance. Also no tools included with it, but this new release seems to have lifted the 5 person limit.
