SQL Shutdown

    Hi All

    If SQL Server does a checkpoint every time the instance is stopped (Cleanly).

    Why is it that when SQL is started up again, I see:

    xxxtransactions rolled back in database....

    xxxtransactions rolled forward in database...

    Am I missing something here?

    A shutdown doesn't necessarily cleanly shut all DBs down, and a checkpoint doesn't mean no recovery necessary, consider uncommitted transactions whose changes get written to disk as part of the checkpoint.
