Other than the fact that the 3 instances will be contending for the same resources you can install 2008 alongside 2005.

watch memory. You'll have some management work do to there to figure out how much each instance needs.

Hi,
I tried to install sql server 2005 on windows server 2008, but my first trial failed. From your message, I understand that you managed to run sql server 2005 on windows 2008 machine. I was wondering if you could give a hint on the following error message:
'This machine does not have a product that matches this installation package'.
I could not install any further after I got the above error message.
Thanks indeed

Niyala, could you check the log file when you attempted the install?
I am currently running Windows 2008 64 bit Cluster active / passive w/ 2005 64 bit SQL Server, only issue i had a problem with is getting sp2 installed correctly, which MS resolved.

Thanks for your information. Surprisingly, I did not have any problem with SP2.
My only problem was the area configuration manager. I still can not figure out why the link "Add New Administrator" does not respond.
What service account did you use during installation? I used the built-in system account default. Is it probably due to service account why I am having the above problem?
