To make it easier you can do:
select serverproperty('productlevel')
To get service pack level and you can do
select serverproperty('edition')
To get the SQL Server edition.

dekesc,
8.00.760 is service pack 2.
It seems you also have a MSDE server on your PC, and you upgraded that and not your developer edition.
You must still install the Sql2ksp3.exe service pack. 🙁

When I go to Enterprise Manager I see only one server, my local server. When I right-click and then go to Properties on the 'server' icon of the item '(local) (NT Windows) just under the SQL Server Group tree on the left of the Enterprise Manager main window, I see:
8.00.760 (SP3)
It says to me that .760 is SP3, not SP2.
When I installed the downloaded sql2ksp3.exe from MS site, it installed with the title "SQL Server 2000 SP3 Install" as it went through the install wizard.
So, would it be better to uninstall everything and start over (I don't want to do that!) , or since the SP3 install was done w/o SQL Serer balking, does that mean its all okay?

I now have gotten to 8.00.818! When I was at 8.00.760, I WAS at SP3. 818 is SP3 plus Q815495. This is according to one of MS's tables I discouvered.
Anyway, I am now at the version I need to be. Thanks to all for all the help and suggestions.
