Hi,
I am (still) often challenged about having SQL Server as the underlying DB for high volume applications (lots of transactions, lots of data, lots of users). I'm also often told that 'Financial Services companies don't use SQL Server as it's just not "good" enough - real companies use Oracle/Terradata/whatever else' ....
I obviously know that SQL Server is perfectly capable of handling large number of transactions, can grow into huge data stores, etc ... but do you guys have the right arguments at the ready? Which FS company could you mention (provided in public domain) that uses SQL Server as (one of) its strategic DB?
Cheers,
B

Thanks for that, good to have these in my back pocket 🙂 ... if anybody else has some interesting (Financial Services) references, it would be great to hear about them (keeping in mind NDAs and the likes 🙂 )
Cheers,

I used to work for a financial services company that used SQL Server. Lots of high-volume data, etc., no problems with the databases/servers. But you don't want to use them as a "references", since they got shut down 2 years ago by the SEC. Nothing to do with SQL Server, but still not the image you want.

:hehe: - you're right, image is (almost) everything.
Some of the FS companies I have worked for do have a bunch of SQL Server used for some purpose or another but not as their main database system, so although I am quite relaxed about mentionning them, it is not the kind of example that can be used to persuade someone away from their deeply held convictions.
I guess that if CitiGroup or HSBC had SQL server as their main/strategic database system, then they would be listed on the list provided by Bhuvnesh.
