Here is a great article explaining how to interpret the results and best practices on running SQLIO.

Even stranger is that despite the 8/22/2012 date, it still claims to be version 1.0, and it still only officially supports up to Windows 2003 and XP (not 2003 R2, mind you).
I checked - it's byte for byte 100% identical with the previous download (which is a true pity - it very much needs a pseudorandom write mode to test incompressible data on storage with compression and deduplication capabilities)

One more, I stumbled across this today while looking for something else on TechNet. Remembered this thread and thought it was worth sharing:

Hello YSLGuru,
I too faced the same problem and while searching i came across the following.
1.Hammerora (Open Source Load Tester Tool)
•Initially built for Oracle but now supports SQL Server too.
•http://hammerora.sourceforge.net/ (Main Page)
•http://hammerora.sourceforge.net/hammerora_mssqlserver_oltp_v2.7.pdf (SQL Server Configuration Guide)
2. Additional tools as seen on the following link
