We have two instances of SQL Server 2005 - SP1 installed on one server. The default instance starts very slowly. When looking at the log I can see the delay is due to Resource Manager based upon the following error.
Message
Resource Manager Creation Failed: 0x8004d102(XACT_E_DUPLICATE_GUID)
What does this mean?
What would cause this to happen?
How do I resolve the problem?
Thanks, Dave

http://www.sqlservercentral.com/articles/Administration/2960/ :----- Try out this & try to implement the same in your server.

It appears to have to do with SQL Server registering with MS DTC. However, the cases I've found where Microsoft has documented it has to do with fail-over clusters where one SQL Server didn't disconnect properly.

That's all I have found as well.

Probably best then to open up a case with support. If it's a legitimate bug, you shouldn't be charged.

Unfortunately that is difficult to prove. I've opened approximately 12 - 14 cases with Microsoft regarding SQL Server 2005. Only one of those cases did they admit it was an undocumented bug. In several other cases they informed me, after several hours of research, that they had "internal" documentation indicating the issue was a known issue and in most cases the issue may be resolved in SQL Server 2008. When I pushed them on the issue by asking why their documentation isn't being made public knowledge they had no answer except to say they will mention my concerns to the development team. To me it's a bit unethical to have documentation that is only available to the public for a $$ FEE $$, assuming they really have the internal documentation they say they have. I suspect they have encountered far more problems with 2005 then they expected and are looking for ways to not lose money on phone support. But that is another topic.
