SQL Server Service pack upgrade on mirroring instances

  • Hi Friends,

We are going to be upgrade SQL Server 2008 R2 RTM to SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 + CU3 on 3 servers and these 3 servers are participated in mirroring session....

Please guide me,How can i proceed this activity with getting into high risks.

    ---I refereed following articles (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb497962(v=sql.100).aspx)

can any one explain following point much clearly

( To perform the rolling upgrade)

  • That link is pretty descriptive!!

As the KB says, a rolling upgrade involves upgrading the current mirror, then failing over the databases and upgrading the new mirror (which was previously the principal). Read the article a few times and you should be good to go.

  • Is it ok to upgrade mirror server when the databases are in restoring state.

Why do i need failing over the databases ?

Is this the right approach if i follow link this

    1. I will start upgarding on mirror server (here dbs are in restoring state)

    2. I will not do any failover

    3. Start upgrading Principal server

  • Follow the original link, it describes exactly what you need to do!!
