Sql server rebooting machine without warning,

  • Does everyone have the core 2 duo?

    My Specs:

    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU

    T5500 @ 1.66GHz

    1.66GHz, 2.00 GB of Ram

    Windows XP SP2

    SQL Server 2005 Express SP2

  • My specs:

    Dell Latitude D820

    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU

    T7600 @ 2.33Ghz

    1.65Ghz, 1.99 GB of RAM

    Windows XP Professional SP2

    SQL Server 2005 SP2

  • I just found this through google. Doesn't provide an definitive answer, but is interesting none the less as it points to the core 2 duo:

There are some additional workarounds listed.

  • I started this thread and yes mine is running on a core duo processor... I think maybe we could be on to something here perhaps if some of the 'guru' admins could look into this thread and shed a little light on the matter, would be much appreciated.

  • mine is core 2 duo

  • I found a solution for this problem in my computer,

I just uninstalled the IntelliType Pro 6.01.

Its a keyboard and mouse software provided by Microsoft which was crashing my computer when using SQL server 2005 with it.

    Cheers

  • This article points to the IntelliType Pro 6.01 as being a possible solution:

  • Great stuff, I did indeed have intellitype 6.01 drivers installed.

I have uninstalled them and it appears to have fixed the problem, it seems from replies to my thread and other threads on the net that it is caused by those drivers and only affects core 2 duo machines while browsing in sql server 2005 studio... so perhaps because of this slighlty lengthy list of prerequisites it has gone unnoticed, but you would expect MS to pick up on this and make a change/patch, having one of their flagship (SQL server) and supposedly most stable products causing machine reboots without warning by one of their own drivers is not good to say the least.

    Anyways, thanks for that nab.

  • Fix seems to be working so far for me as well.

I'll post again if the problem arises.

    Cheers everyone

    Dan

  • Also, check for updated video drivers for your machine. I had this happen to me about a year ago. I looked at the dump file, did a Google search on that, and found one other person who had it happening. They fixed theirs by updating the video drivers. That worked for me, as well.

I just had it happening on a different machine, upgraded my video drivers, and that fixed it again.

    Good luck.
