Greetings,
I am stuck and I hope someone here can help me. I need help to be able to communicate with my SQl server via internet.
I know I have a network setup issue.
I have a 2wire ATT wireless router/modem with Internet access.
I have a PC linked to it.
I also link with a laptop and other devices via wireless (cameras, etc...)
My PC has SQL Server installed on it with an ftp server and webserver.
Every addresses is static except the PC that is obtain an IP address automatically. I want to change that.
Right now, all devices are pointing to 98.94.0.105 (for example the cameras ftp).
I know how to do it with the PC:
Use the following IP address:
IP Address 192.168.1.68
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Default gateway What do I put????
Right now the IP config gives me that:
C:\Documents and Settings\...>ipconfig
Windows IP Configuration
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : gateway.2wire.net
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 98.94.0.105
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.252
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 98.94.0.106
Any of you know where I need and what I need to change in that stupid gateway? It does not take standard CISCO commands. Screens shots would be very welcome.
My next move, when I got that fixed, will be to put a few webpages with SQL Server in the backend. But until I can make my PC IP private, I do not want to do that.
Thank you

It looks like your PC is directly on the net, if so what filtering and such is the router doing? Is it acting as a firewall?
I think that the only public address should be the one connected to the internet side interface of your router, everything else should be hidden. Also, it seems like you only need the web server and FTP server internet facing, most routers will allow you to address traffic on specific ports to internal IP addresses, this further helps to hide the internal layout.
I use a Linksys RV042 VPN router that works just great for this.
As a second issue you might consider segregating off your private network from the DMZ network, this would help protect your internal network from a breach in the outer network.

Greetings,
The first part of you answer is what I am trying to do. How do I do that with ewire "crappy" interface?
That stupid user guide shows the screens but this is cryptic to setup the computer to connect to the gateway.

Wow, that interface sucks..
I think it is going to be hard to do (mainly because I don't have a good enough understanding of this POS modem..)
I have tried not to use combined interfaces (router and wireless on the same)..
Have you configured the home network section as it states on page 34? Per the document it sounds like you are looking for a "bridge network" but I don't think this router has enough control to safely do what you want.
Short answer, router sucks (my view) it would be better to throw a more feature rich router behind it with a new wireless AP and just treat that 2wire box as a gateway. Again, entirely my perspective..

Greetings,
ok, here is my plan:
1 - I setup static Ip for my computer in the 2wire as shown in this image ;
But how the hell do I remove babylon to be DMZ????
2 - I setup the same address in the network connetion tcp/ip properties general tab.
ip:192.168.1.68
subnet 255.255.255.0
But what do I put as default gateway IP???
Would it work and send/receive the traffic from/to internet?
What do I miss if not?
Thank you

well, that device does stink, but it seems fairly easy to set up what your trying to do. You create a private network with (DHCP) and then either create an application in the firewall or pick a preconfigured one and route the traffic to that specific device.. It will assign a special address to the device once its configured. It doesn't seem that difficult.

Greetings,
Been there done that....until how to assign that special address...

Greetings,
I Finally got it working!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!! Darn POI....
The cameras do ftp to the computer. The computer has a private ip address. The internet is working when I use IE.
I still can get sometimes the router behind router error message in IE, but closing and opening the window solves the issue. However I still can't connect to the webserver using the public IP from an outside computer.
How can I verify what is that public address?
The ipconfig/all does not show it, it gives me a gateway that is 192.168.1.254 that is the same address I use to connect to the router administrative interface...

Greetings,
Did not have time to work on this POS since a little while.
Everything is working fine internally. But I have an other issue: I can't communicate from the web to my webserver on my computer.
I opened the port on the 2wire firewall, I am sure nothing on the computer is blocking anything. I disabled everything on it.
I think I pinpointed the problem, but I can't figure out which right setting to put. I tried and it did not work.
Do you think I am wrong thinking the Publied Proxied subnet is the place I must enable? What do I put as the subnet mask? There is already one by the public IP.....
Thank you
