We have an application that uses our SQL Server name when logging in.
Unfortunately this is required and cannot hide or set for the user because vendor uses some code.
Our servername is rather long and has full long domain name too.
Is there a way to do alias - if so is this inside of SQL 2005 or would this be something on the DNS.
Any advice

You can set up client aliases under the configuration manager.
