Hi Guys,
Could you help me to configure my SQL Server memory? The details are bellow.
This new server is a Analytical reporting server and We are running SQL Server 2000 & Analsis Server 2000 Ent Edition in the same box. We have 8GB RAM and 4 CPU.
I enabled the AWE Memory and Configured the Max Server Memory 5Gb in SQL Server and SQL Server service account has been granted "Lock Pages in Memory" privileges But the Server memory usage Always shows that 4.38GB in the task manager.
I have configured the Analysis Server memory 2GB from Default (1GB). Can I use the 2GB memory on Analysis Service with out enabling the 3GB switch on boot.ini? (B'caz itz not advisable to enable the 3gb switch on the SQL Data Server - Microsoft support).
This are the details I have in Boot.ini (Default)
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows Server 2003, Enterprise" /fastdetect /PAE /NoExecute=OptOut
Could you guys help, Am I doing the right thing? Or Do I need to modify any other configuration? Why the the memory usage is 4.38 GB always?
Thanks

I have allocated 5GB for SQL Server and 1GB for OS and 2 GB for Analysis Server. But the SQL Server only using 4GB.
Do I need to TURN ON the 3GB switch on my SQL Server?
Is there anyother way to force the SQL Server to use the 5GB?
Thanks

The server is using 4.44GB as a Max memory.
I enabled the /3Gb switch Still the server using the 49% of memory. Do you guys have any idea? Could you help me on this?
Do I need to apply any hot fixes from MS?

I didn't enable the /3gb switch.After I installed the Hotfix from MS.
I beleive that MS-Analysis Service uses 1GB as a Max (Default) until unless we enable the 3gb switch. Do you have any idea about the Analysis server memory Allocation.
Thanks

AFAIK Analysis Service (32 bit) takes maximum 3Gb. Even if more is available.

When I was talking to this MS Support and they said that MS Analysis Service uses 2Gb as its max!!!. Even If we need to use the whole 2GB then I need to switch the 3GB.
Right now I have 8GB RAM and SQL Server uses 5GB and I assigned 2GB for Analysis Service.
Could you tell me how do I check Analysis Service memory usages?
Thanks

IF pss says so, accept it. For the moment I cannot check because I nolonger have msAs available on a big box.
