Hi,
A couple of SQL Server licensing questions
1. In a clustered environment do both servers need to be licensed? If the cluster is running in Active/Passive mode such as we operate, then only the Active server must be licensed. If the licensing is per processor, you must license for the greatest number of processors that could be used (i.e. if the passive server has more processors you would need to license for that number of processors).
2. If Intel Hyper-Threading is enabled is the machine licensed for each logical processor? If the machine is a per processor license, you only have to license for physical processors not the logical processors.
Thank you,
Leonid

Please anyone correct me if I am wrong..
1. No, you only need one license for Active/Passive one. LogShipping, on the other hand, you need two licensees (too obvious?)
2. Yes, you only have to license for physical processors. If you are using HT, I'd recommend using Windows 2003 and when you install, only type physical processor license. SQL still uses both physical and logical processor. Based on benchmarking, HT CPU only improves 15% of performance.
