SQL Server licensing cost

  • I heard that sql server changed it licensing policy from per processor to per core.

if i have 2 processor 8 cores (with 4 core each) what is the cost increased?

what is the plan for your organization as well.

  • 2 CPUs, each with 4 cores, would mean you need to purchase 8 core licenses for SQL.

I have attached the QRG which contains some pricing, but to get latest prices, speak to MS or your MS reseller.

Watch out for the 20 core limit, if you ever get beefy servers.

  • do you have anything for sql 2005 licensing

or sql 2005 license to sql 2008 r2

or sql 2005 lciense to sql 2012

  • You cannot purchase SQL 2005 or SQL 2008 licenses any more, you have to follow the SQL 2012 rules, and ensure you get the downgrade rights if you want to install 2005/2008 instead of 2012.

  • is it applicable for license renewal? or is it for new purchase?

  • License renewal, you mean software assurance?

If you have paid for SA and you upgrade to SQL 2012 then your licenses change to core based licensing, and you get what ever the document attached says, so 1 CPU Standard license gets X amount of core licenses etc.

Or do you mean if your topping up your aggrement to make you compliant?

If so as you can only purchase SQL 2012 licenses you need to ensure you purchase the right amount of SQL 2012 licenses to make your 2000/2005/2008/2012 servers compliant.
