SQL Server License Structure

  • I would like to know the sql server license structure in our company. We don't have any documentation on it. I need to find out how the license structure is distributed across all servers whether is CPU based or CAL based or any other. It might be different for different servers. What's the best to find out??

  • Licensing for SQL Server is all about paper, the instances themselves have no idea how they are licensed.

Go speak with whoever did the software purchasing or is responsible for vendor contracts.

You'll have to do some matching up with what was bought v what is being used and installed. Overall, this means a bunch of work that will be out of date quickly as new instances are added.
