SQL server License

  • Hi

we have accidentally installed SQL server core edition, when the license we have is SQL server CAL edition.

Is there a way to convert the SQL to the CAL edition without reinstalling SQL?

I've read a few articles about converting from CAL to Core but not the other way round. They also involve changing the product key and you do not receive a product key with the Server \CAL license.

    Any ideas?

  • Bump 🙂

  • I'm thinking that you're going to need to do a reinstall but I'm not sure.  Your best bet would be to contact MS on this problem.

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

  • Just I thought.....

I kept copies of all the system and user databases,

uninstalled the core version of SQL,

reinstalled the CAL version of SQL (same version and edition)

    Shutdown SQL

Copied back all the user and overwrote the new system databases

    Re started SQL

Would it work?? I guess my main concern is qwould the new install of SQL be happy pointing to system databases copied from a different install of SQL.
